In April 1775, American Colonists began fighting with British soldiers for their right to govern themselves. In June 1776, five of our eventual Founding Fathers - Thomas Jefferson, Benjamin Franklin, John Adams, Robert Livingston, and Roger Sherman - drafted the Declaration of Independence.
